Scam tips and resources

The localization industry is experiencing pervasive scams that target freelance resources. Scammers are using freelance job platforms to impersonate translation providers including Acclaro.

Please note that Acclaro never asks translators for money or to do unpaid work. We only communicate using the acclaro.com domain name.

If you think you’re being scammed, we recommend that you do not respond or send money.

Here’s how to tell if you’re being scammed

Scammers are constantly evolving their approach but here are some indicators that will help you identify if scammers are impersonating Acclaro or other providers:

  1. You find an Acclaro translation job posting on Freelancer.com, Fiverr or Upwork
  2. And/or you receive a solicitation email from a non-Acclaro email domain, like [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], etc.
  3. You are contacted by an unknown contact via WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook Messenger, or other third-party communication platforms about a translation job
  4. You are asked to sign a contract and to provide personal information, including “birth age”, “citizenship” and sometimes bank details
  5. You are asked to pay for setting up an account profile in a payment portal system
  6. You are asked for payment to get paid, after submitting your work
