We received more than 50 stunning entries over 10 days. Nicholas Chambers, the Milton Fine Curator of Art of the Warhol, said “The winning images showed exceptional photographic quality and creative use of The Warhol D.I.Y. Pop app for re-contextualization. I was most impressed by how these artists captured the essence of their culture, prompting critical thinking about how that one image could encapsulate a key part of a cultural identity.” High praise, indeed. So, without further ado, we are proud to announce the winners:
Grand Prize: Massimo Strazzeri of Raleigh, North Carolina, who submitted “The Daily Update.” Massimo, great job, and we hope you enjoy your trip to Pittsburgh and private tour of The Andy Warhol Museum.
Second Place: Mary Ann Csahok of Munhall, Pennsylvania, for “Train Ride to NYC.” Mary Ann, Google Maps tells us you’re pretty close to Pittsburgh so we hope you’ll use your $300 gift certificate to The Warhol Store in person!
Third Place: Rachael Candler, who did her hometown of Mullens, West Virginia proud with her submission, “Nanna.” Rachael, we hope you’ll make it to the museum in person too, but your $200 gift certificate is also good online.
To Massimo, Mary Ann, Rachael, Carolyn, and everyone who participated, thank you so much for your contributions. And thank you to The Andy Warhol Museum for your partnership — we literally couldn’t have done it without you.
